Most of the cycling we have done has been on quiet roads. The footpaths along the valley next to Le Giffre are used by cyclists and pedestrians alike. There are more challenging stretches of cycle path towards Morillon for off-road cycling, with tree roots and rocks to negotiate, and often plenty of mud.
For a bit more of a climb, cycle to Verchaix and back to Samoëns via Morillon. There are several left turns en route for you to turn back towards the valley when the going gets tough.
Le Fer a Cheval, at the end of the D907, is worth a visit and is a fairly easy cycle ride, about an hour, with a slight incline all the way. The road is a little busy but the traffic gets less as you get further from Samoëns. There are one or two off-road stretches that run parallel to the road for some relief.
Le Fer a Cheval itself is very popular with day trippers because of the many flat walks with beautiful views of the surrounding mountains, forming a horse shoe shape around the end of the valley.
Keen road cyclists can attempt a Tour de France stage. The road to from Samoëns to Morzine takes in the Col de Joux Plane at 1,691 m. And after that if you have any energy some lovely walks start from here. We prefer to arrive by car!
